Welcome! I’m so glad that you’re here, taking a step toward feeling better.
I have over 15 years of experience with children, teens, and families from diverse racial, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. I started my career as a high school teacher, but seeing the large unmet need for mental health services in schools led me to social work.
I’ve provided mental health services in elementary, middle, and high schools in Chicago and DC. My work with children and adolescents includes depression, anxiety, ADHD, executive functioning, emotion regulation, challenging behaviors, trauma, grief and loss, social skills, and stress management.
However, I know that kids and families do best when the “grown ups” are healthy and taking care of themselves, and so I am equally dedicated to supporting adults in their mental health needs. I have provided adult therapy for issues including anxiety, depression, life transitions, stress management, relationships, self-esteem, and trauma.
I'm committed to tailoring an individual approach that fits each client’s needs. My clinical experience includes trauma-informed treatments, play therapy, and animal assisted interventions.
I have graduate degrees in both teaching and social work. In my free time, I love walking my dogs (Rogue and Loki), horseback riding, and convincing my family and friends to play board games with me.
Animal Assisted Interventions
Rock Creek Forest Counseling is proud to offer sessions with Rogue, our therapy dog. Rogue is a Golden Retriever who works as a therapy partner to provide a variety of supports. She sometimes helps by providing a quiet, calming presence, and sometimes by being an active participant in Animal Assisted Play Therapy® (AAPT). Rachel and Rogue have completed the Level 1 and Level 2 trainings in AAPT from the International Institute for Animal Assisted Play Therapy.
Therapy services are available in person, at our Chevy Chase location, and through telehealth, via HIPAA compliant video conferencing.
